3 Tips to Protect Yourself While Traveling During the Holidays

How you can stay safe during your holiday travels.

If you are planning to travel this holiday season, then you are not alone.  According to AAA, 6.4 million Americans will take to the skies, with thousands of others traveling by train, bus, and other public transportation.  No matter what mode of transportation you take, it’s important that you take steps to protect yourself and those around you.  Here’s what you can do to stay safe during your holiday travels.

  • Drink Lots of Fluids

Whether you are flying or taking some other mode of transportation, it’s important that you stay hydrated.  A lot of times, the stress of traveling makes us forget about taking care of ourselves.  However, getting dehydrated can make you grumpy, and can also cause headaches and drowsiness.  To ensure that you are alert and at peak condition, make sure you keep drinking throughout the duration of your trip.

  • Practice Good Hygiene

If you are flying or taking public transportation, then make sure that you wash your hands with soap and water as often as possible.  Unfortunately, the holidays overlap with cold and flu season, and many people may be sick or carrying disease-causing germs.  Because you cannot really avoid coming into contact with others when taking planes, trains, or buses, the best you can do is ensure that your hands are clean.  Carry around hand sanitizer just in case you are unable to wash your hands.  Be particularly careful to wash up before eating or touching your face.

  • Share Your Travel Plans with Others

Before you leave on your trip, make sure you give a copy of your itinerary and important contact information to a family member or friend.  You should also leave them copies of your passport, credit cards, driver’s license, and other forms of identification.  This way, they can contact the authorities and provide information that can help them locate you in an emergency.

These are some of the suggestions that you should try to stay safe during your holiday travels.  Want another way to take care of yourself?  Then make sure you have the right insurance protections in place.  For assistance with all your insurance needs, contact the experts at Mike Leonard Insurance Agency.  Our dedicated team is eager to find you the right coverage from one of our many carriers, including: Kemper, MetLife, Nationwide, Travelers, The Hartford, Safeco Insurance, Progressive, and American Strategic Insurance.
