Sour Power: Borderline Brilliant Uses for Lemons

When life gives you lemons, put them to good use!

The old saying goes, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” If all you’re doing is whipping up a sweet drink, though, you’re missing out. This sour fruit has a whole host of uses that just might blow you away. Here are just a few borderline brilliant uses for lemons that can help your home, health, and more!

Polish chrome: Rub a lemon rind over dull or tarnished chrome to bring back its shine. Rinse and dry afterwards.

Deodorize the cat box: Cut a couple of lemons in half and stick them, cut side up, in a dish near your cat box. The lemon will neutralize the cat odors.

Brighten clothes: Don’t turn to harsh bleach to refresh your whites! Add a cup of lemon juice to your washer and your clothes will not only look whiter, they’ll also have a hint of fresh lemon smell.

Flush toxins: Clear your body out by drinking lemon water, which will help purge toxins.

Clean your nails: If your nails are discolored, soak them in a bowl filled with a cup of warm water and the juice of half a lemon for five minutes. Then rub some lemon peel on the nail.

Deodorize your garbage disposal: Banish funky sink smells by tossing leftover lemon peels and a few ice cubes down the drain. Run the garbage disposal to clear out the smell.

Banish bugs: Keep bugs out by squirting some lemon juice on windowsills and door thresholds. If ants are still getting in, find their entry point and squeeze lemon juice into it.
