The website reviewed auto insurance rates charged by major insurers like Allstate, Nationwide, Progressive and Geico for 2014 model year cars. For purposes of the report, Insure.com compared the premiums charged by each company for a single, 40-year old male with a clean driving history and good credit.

The study showed that Jeeps were the cheapest cars to insure. As many as seven of the cars in the Top 20 list of least expensive cars to insure belonged to Jeep,. The Jeep Wrangler Sport led the pack followed by the Jeep Patriot Sport in third place and Jeep Compass Sport in fifth place. Other Jeep models in the Top 20 list included the Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and the Jeep Wrangler Sahara. According to Insure.com, contrary to popular perception, Jeep owners typically tend to be single or married women under 45 who use the vehicles to haul their children around suburbs at safe sub-50 miles-per-hour speeds. As a result, the vehicles attract the lowest insurance rates. For the same reason, vehicles like the Honda Odyssey minivan, Chrysler Town and Country Touring, Subaru Outback and the Ford Escape are also relatively inexpensive to insure.
