Now that the clocks have “sprung” forward and the official start of spring is behind us, it is time to make sure other springtime duties get done. Beyond the normal spring cleaning chores, here are some reminders of spring maintenance tasks to take care of.
- Clear out your medicine cabinets of outdated prescriptions and medicines. Many cabinets have medicines that are years old. Most pharmacies will dispose of your medicines safely.
- Check your batteries in all of your fire, smoke and CO2 detectors.
- It is time to change filters in your home. These include furnace and A/C filters, vacuum cleaner filters any water filters associated with your refrigerator, dishwasher and humidifiers. Filters for your furnace should be changed every 60 days to optimize the performance of your cooling coil.
- Drain your water heater once a year and the spring is a great time to do it. This will minimize sediment that can limit your water heater’s efficiency.
