Tips for a Greener Holiday

Join the Efforts to Go Green this Holiday Season!

As joyous and merry as the holiday season can be, it also is a time of wasteful habits. All the wrapping paper, holiday cards, packaging, holiday themed paper napkins, and increased electricity use show exactly how wasteful our society can be. When it comes to your holiday decorations and gift giving this year, we recommend going green! We understand that this may be a little outside of your comfort zone, which is why we have gathered these helpful tips for a greener holiday:

  • Going green for the holidays starts with your shopping habits. Rather than putting your new purchases in branded plastic and paper bags, bring your reusable bags to the mall. Some stores will even offer a discount for the green efforts.
  • Rather than sectioning off a specific day to do your holiday shopping, combine your gift buying endeavors with your regular errands so that you can save on gas. If possible, try to knock off all the items on your holiday shopping list in one trip so that you do not have to return to the store until after the holiday craze has subsided.
  • Get creative with your wrapping! Rather than purchasing a new strip of holiday wrapping paper each year, use recycled wrapping paper, newspapers, or magazines to conceal your gifts. It is all about what is inside anyways, right?
  • Rather than allowing your live tree to spend the rest of its life in a landfill, recycle your tree. Simply contact your community to determine the appropriate drop-off center. To further promote green efforts, invest in a beautiful artificial tree that still allows you to continue family traditions while eliminating the amount of live trees that are cut for only a month’s use.

Merry Christmas from our family to yours! We hope you enjoy your green holiday! Serving Carrollton, Coppell, and all of NorthTexas, contact Mike Leonard Insurance Agency for all of your insurance needs.
