Are you ready for an emergency? Get prepared with this room-by-room guide and homeowners insurance!
While it’s not the most fun situation to run through in your mind, you need to spend some time thinking about how you’d react in the face of emergencies. Fortunately, preparing for those kinds of situations in advance can make the mental exercise – and the real thing – a lot less stressful! Use this guide and your homeowners insurance to make sure every room of your house is ready for an emergency.
In the kitchen.
Cooking accidents are an all-too-common cause of home fires. Make sure an issue on the stove or in the oven doesn’t send your home up in flames; keep a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. Don’t forget to figure out how to use it!
In the bathroom.
You likely already have a first aid kit ready, but when was the last time you checked it? Take the time to go through your first aid kit and make sure that you don’t have any expired items in it. If you do, replace them right away!
In the bedroom.
If you have any bedrooms that aren’t on the ground floor, make sure they’re stocked with an emergency escape ladder. Train each member of your family on how to use it. Also, have everyone keep a sturdy pair of shoes somewhere easily accessible so you can make a speedy exit, if needed!
Everywhere.
Keep flashlights with extra batteries in every room of your house. Also, make sure you have working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors on each story.
