Use these suggestions to get calmer during Stress Awareness Month this April.
Can you believe it’s almost April? Don’t let the rapid succession of months stress you out! Or, if it does, do something about it. April is actually Stress Awareness Month, so it’s the perfect time to pinpoint those pain points that bring stress into your life and work to minimize – or even completely eliminate – them. Want to get started? Here are a few things you can do right away to help minimize your tension during Stress Awareness Month this April.
- Breathe. When was the last time you thought about your breathing? Shallow breathing is a symptom of stress, but even a minute of thoughtful, deep breathing can help cut your tension. Give your body an extra shot of oxygen by inhaling to your full capacity and you’ll feel calmer.
- Unplug. Computer use is associated with stress, and the sense of being constantly available that smartphones give us definitely isn’t doing your stress levels any favor. Take the time to get out from under the digital thumb and you should feel more serene.
- Walk. Getting moving boosts endorphins, making you feel happier and reducing stress hormones. If you can get into a green space, all the better since nature encourages you to reflect and slow down.
- Buddy up. Seeing someone you like – like a best friend or lover – reduces your cortisol production, helping you feel calmer. Kissing can take everything one step further since it’s linked to endorphin production.
