Learn which home repairs you can do yourself.
Home repairs can get expensive very quickly and that’s why many homeowners attempt to tackle these fixes on their own. While many home repairs are best left to the professionals, there are some minor repairs that you can make around your home. Here are some of the easy home repairs you can do yourself.
- Painting-While a large paint job seems like a daunting task, you can actually handle most home painting projects on your own. The key to handling a paint job like a pro is all about the prep. Make sure you have all the supplies you will need and make sure that your walls are prepped for paint.
- Applying Caulk– Caulk is the rubbery material around your tub, shower, sink, toilet etc. that prevents moisture from seeping into cracks and crevices. Over time, caulk can get worn, discoloured, and moldy. Luckily, applying new caulk is relatively easy. You can buy caulk from your local hardware store or even use caulk strips. Just make sure you remove old caulk before attempting to apply a fresh layer.
- Unclogging a Toilet– While this isn’t a pleasant job, it’s probably a good idea to know how to deal with a backed-up toilet. First, determine whether there might be a foreign object that’s blocking your toilet. If this is the case, then you might be able to fish it out and the problem will be solved. If the clog is more serious, then a lot of times you can clear your pipes using a plunger and a plumbing sake.
