How you can prep your car for the fall.
Now that summer is winding down, you need to get ready for fall. One of the ways that you can prepare for the change in seasons is by making sure that your car is well-equipped to handle fall driving conditions. Not sure what steps you should take? Then follow this guide to help you prep your car for the fall.
- Tire Tread
Wet weather and fallen leaves can create slick roadways during the fall months. If your car’s tires are worn down, then they will not have enough traction to grip the road. This will increase your chances of skidding and losing control of the vehicle. To stay safe, inspect the tread on your tires to verify that it is at least 3/32 of an inch. If your tread is less than 3/32 of an inch deep, then you need to replace your tires immediately. A good way to measure your tire tread is with the penny test. Insert a penny into your tread with the top of Lincoln’s head facing the tire. If you can see Lincoln’s entire head, then your tread is too shallow, and it’s time for a tire replacement.
- Headlights and Tail Lights
During the fall months, the days get shorter, and the nights get longer. This means that you will likely spend more time driving in the dark. To ensure your visibility, you need to make sure that your car’s headlights and high beams are operating as normal. You should also check to make sure that your tail lights, brake lights, and indicator lights are also working as well. This will ensure that other drivers see your vehicle and anticipate your next driving maneuvers.
- Windows and Windshield
Because the days get shorter during fall, there’s an increased chance that you will be driving during sunrise or sunset. While the sun glare affects your visibility as it is, things are even worse when your windows and windshield are smudged or dirty. Simply giving your car a good clean will do wonders for your visibility while driving this fall.
