Learn how you can express your appreciation this Veterans Day.
Veterans Day is November 11th. On this day, take a moment to reflect on the brave service and selfless sacrifice of members of our United States Armed Forces. This Veterans Day, it’s important to show the veteran community how much we care. So, try out these suggestions to help you express your appreciation this Veterans Day.
- Donate: One of the easiest ways to show your gratitude is by donating to charities and organizations that serve the veteran community. For instance, charities, such as Operation Gratitude, accept donated items to create care packages that they then send to veterans, deployed, service members, and other deserving military members. Additionally, there are many organizations that are deserving of your financial support. For example, you could donate to Wounded Warrior Project, Homes for our Troops, DAV (Disabled American Veterans), USO (United Service Organizations), and many more.
- Write: Another great way to show our veterans that you care is by writing notes that thank them for their service. This is a great way to gather family and friends and throw a letter-writing event. Even children can get involved by drawing pictures and writing little notes. Once your group has finished writing all their notes, gather them and send them to the nearest military of VA (Veterans Affairs) installation for distribution. Your anonymous words of thanks will show our veterans how grateful you are.
- Reach out: Finally, make sure that no veteran is forgotten on Veterans Day. Many of us have family members and friends who have served in the armed forces, so make sure you reach out and thank them on Veterans Day. Additionally, there are many veterans in VA hospitals that do not receive regular visitors. Visit your local VA hospital and offer your company and conversation to those who so bravely served. This might be the most precious gift you can give to a veteran on this day.
