Preparing Your Boat for Summer

Try out these tips to help you get your boat ready for summer.

Now that spring is officially here, the warmer temperatures offer the reminder that summer is just a few months away.  This means that it’s finally time to get your boat ready for action!  If you want to start preparing for your summer adventures, then here are some tips to help you get your boat ready for summer.

  • Wash It

One of the first steps you should take is washing away the dust, grime, and debris that might have accumulated during the winter months.  While this is admittedly grunge work, cleaning your boat is an important step in your summer preparations.  Make sure that you use the right products as you clean; non-marine cleaners can actually damage your boat.  After your boat has been thoroughly cleaned, make sure you apply wax and complete any detailing steps.

  • Complete a Safety Check

Before you can set out on the water, it’s important to make sure that your boat’s navigation lights, horn, and engine are all in good shape.  Additionally, you should check to make sure that your safety equipment (life jackets, first aid kit, etc.) looks good to go.  If necessary, you should also get your boat serviced to ensure that it’s well-maintained and safe to use.  Completing a safety check now will help you avoid emergency situations after you set sail.

  • Check Your Registrations

It’s also important to make sure that you have all the necessary stickers on your boat.  Registration laws differ by state, so it’s important that you check your state’s requirements and ensure that you are meeting them.  If you need to update your registration, then take care of it now so you are free to use your boat when summer does roll around.
