Santa Fe Days In The Park Is Back
It is important to celebrate our roots, so mark your calendar for the upcoming Santa Fe Days in the Park. This standout among local events celebrate the American Indian culture that is integral to Texas and comes chock full of things to do.
The event will run at the Sandy Lake Amusement Park (1800 Sandy Lake Road, Carrollton) between 10:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on March 14th and March 15th. Admission will be $2 and parking will be free. This is the 11th year Carrollton will celebrate this American Indian Arts and Cultural event.
You will not want to miss the 70 American Indian craftsman and artists as they display their unique wares of pottery, paintings, jewelry and traditional crafts. You will have the chance to see some of the most beautiful, locally crafted art.
There will also be entertainment, including can’t-miss performances from the Chickasaw Stomp Dance Shell Shakers and the Plains Indian Dancers. Additionally, there will be flute playing, stickball, pottery making, and finger weaving demonstrations.
Do not miss the workshops from featured artists James and Doris Coriz. They are Santo Domingo Pueblo silver and turquoise jewelry creators who will show you how to identity natural turquoise so you will not be fooled by imitation turquoise.
Finally, head to the indigenous grocery story. There, you will be able to learn about healing roots, the nutritional value of blue corn, and reservation survival foods. Ultimately, this all contributes to making Santa Fe Days In The Park an event well worth attending!
