Use these easy tips to skip getting sick this flu season.
Flu season is (unfortunately) upon us. Obviously, you want to do all you can to avoid getting sick in the coming months, but sometimes there is just no amount of hand sanitizer that can protect you.
Fortunately, there are some other things you can do to bolster your immune system and stay healthy! Avoid getting sick this flu season with these surprisingly simple tips.
- Sleep. When you feel tired, it’s because you are! When your body is fatigued, it has a harder time fending off infection. Get at least 7 hours of sleep, and you’ll be three times less likely to come down with the flu.
- Eat garlic. Garlic contains allicin, an organosulfur compound that helps your body fight infection. Working garlic into your cooking can give your immune system a boost, or take a garlic supplement if you’re not a fan of the flavor.
- Gargle. To enter your body, viruses have to make it past the mucus in your throat. If you gargle after you’ve come into contact with a person or surface you think could infect you, you get rid of the top layer of mucus in which the virus is trapped. A study found that you can decrease your odds of getting sick by a third by gargling three times a day!
- Be careful around kids. It’s probably not surprising to hear that kids can carry the common cold virus longer than adults. After you’ve been around sick or recently sick kids, wash your hands right away.
