Learn how you can keep pests out of your home.
No one wants their home to be overrun with pests, but at the same time, many homeowners do not want their home to be sprayed with harsh chemicals. Luckily, there are many, less harmful ways to keep pests out of your home. If you are interested in keeping your home bug-free, then try out some of these solutions.
- Peppermint Oil
Mint plants and peppermint oil naturally repel ants, spiders, mosquitos, and even mice. Mix 10-15 drops of peppermint oil with 8 ounces of water and spray this mixture around your doorways, vents, and windows to keep pests out.
- Lavender
In addition to having a wonderful smell, lavender plants repel moths, fleas, flies, and mosquitos. Use parcels of dried lavender flowers or use a mix of lavender oil and water to repel bugs around your home.
- Neem Oil
Neem oil, a product of the Neem tree, kills over 200 species of insects. However, this oil is not harmful to humans or wildlife. You can spray your indoor plants with this oil to repel aphids, thrips, and white flies.
- Pyrethrin
This natural insecticide is extracted from the chrysanthemum flower. Pyrethrin affects the nervous systems of insects and kills them quickly and effectively. Spray this insecticide on mosquitos, moths, flies, fleas, or any other hard-bodied insects to kill them quickly.
- Flypaper and Traps
Finally, you can use poison-free sticky traps around your home. These traps attract insects with their smell and color and then trap the insects, making for easy disposal.
